Blogging Ideas
After the last post on the importance of blogging, a couple questions came in about the difficulty of regularly updating or posting to a blog environment. Blogs are an important part of any SEO or relationship building program, but there is no doubt about it… blogging is work! On the plus side – if blogging was easy, everyone would be doing it. This could be a real opportunity for you to establish your business as a key spokesperson or information expert in your field! Still, to perhaps make it a bit easier, here is a very quick and dirty outline of how to establish and stick to a blogging plan.
1. Brevity – Don’t think that each post needs to be 5,000 words. A daily paragraph or two on a relevant topic can be very meaningful. Besides, most folks who read these things are busy, too and they might not have time to dig through a very detailed presentation.
2. Relevancy – Look for any interesting business or environmental development occuring within the past few days. In other words, comment on what others are talking about around the water cooler.
3. Establish a flexible plan – This is a good thing to do away from the office. Come up with a rough list of ten to 15 topics and prioritize them. It is possible to pre-write some material on each of these, but by having an idea what topic you are writing on each day makes the job quite a bit easier. When a possible topic occurs to you or should you observe something being discussed around the water cooler – just write on the most immediately relevant topic and save the others for later.
4. Check out the planned topics with industry experts – Friends in the industry will almost certainly have additional ideas for topics, so don’t miss this step. The synergy among industry experts to come up with creative topic ideas should always be tapped! Your experts might also alert you to items on your list of planned topics that they don’t believe are quite as relevant. This is great pre-posting research!
5. Research the topics – Make sure you are providing value without giving away trade secrets. This is frequently a difficult tightrope to walk, but if each piece doesn’t contain some element of useful value, your readers will return less frequently. Useful statistics are valuable regarding things like market size, growth or trends. These can be fairly easily found using the search engines.
6. Respond! At lest in the beginning, ALWAYS send out a thank you note to those that comment on your blog! We want to make them an important part of the network!
Hope this helps out there! Send a note to me (using the Contact Us tab) or comment on this post!
